Creating a Front Source

By creating a Real-time Front source, you can sync historical and real-time conversations from your Front Connection for analysis and automate actions like tagging in Front.
The Front Source is a Real-time source type. With Real-time sources you can use Rules & Conditions to segment and filter data from Connections and create multiple sources using the same connection.
To get conversations into a Front source, we'll go through the following steps:
  1. 1.
    Setting up your Front Source
  2. 2.
    Configuring Rules & Conditions
  3. 3.
    Importing historical conversations from Front
  4. 4.
    Configuring Real-time Sync

Setting up your Front Source

Navigate to Sources in Caravel's main nav and click New Source. In the resulting screen, select Real-time as the type, and then choose the Front option in the following screen.
If you haven't set up your Front Connection, go do that now!
Give your Source a name. Optionally, describe the contents of the source. Click Next.
If you plan to create multiple Front sources, make the name descriptive so you easily decipher its' contents within your feeds.

Configuring Rules & Conditions

You have the option of defining rules and condition to filter your Front data before it gets analyzed by Caravel. The properties you can filter by are properties made available by the Front API.
Currently, you can filter by the Front following properties:
  • Inbox
  • Tag
  • Topic
  • Contact
  • Recipient
  • From
  • To
  • CC
  • BCC
  • Participant
  • Assignee
  • Mention
  • Commenter
  • Status
  • Date
Once you've defined your Rules & Conditions, click Next to setup the Sync.

Importing historical conversations from Front

To import historical conversations, toggle on Historical Sync. Then, select the date you want to look back to and click OK. Finally, set a record import limit by dragging the slider menu left to right.
Your record import limit can not be more than the number of records you have available in your plan for the month.
If you wish to import all new Front conversations into Caravel with this source, move on to the next step. Otherwise, click Finish and Caravel will begin importing your historical conversations.

Configuring Real-time Sync

To import all new Front conversations into Caravel, toggle on Real-time Sync.
This generates a unique webhook URL that you will tell Front to call every time a new conversation is received. Click Copy to copy the URL to your clipboard.
Next, go to your Front account, navigate to your company settings, and click Rules. You're going to add a custom rule that triggers this webhook.
Click Add a team rule and on the resulting screen click Create Rule under the Custom Rule option.
Add a Inbound Message is Received Trigger to the rule. In the If conditions for the rule, make sure the conditions match what you configured in your Caravel source. Finally, add an action. Under 3rd Party select Send to Webhook and input the webhook URL Caravel created for you. Click Create rule.
Navigate back to Caravel, and click Finish to save your Source and begin the import, if you're syncing historical conversations.
That's it! Caravel's notifications will keep you updated on the sync process. Once it's done, your conversations are available within Your Feed from the Sources dropdown for analysis.
